🍂 Fall Hikes in Utah: The Best Trails for Autumn Color in Park City & Beyond
As the Wasatch Mountains turn gold, Utah’s hiking trails become a tapestry of color — fiery maples, golden aspens, and deep evergreen pines. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a peaceful fall stroll, these Park City–area trails offer some of the best autumn experiences in the West.
🏔️ Mid Mountain Loop
Distance: 3.3 miles (loop)
Difficulty: Moderate
This stunning loop meanders through bright yellow aspen groves and quiet pine forests, offering sweeping mountain views along the way. You can access the trail from several points, but starting at Silver Lake Lodge in Deer Valleyprovides a perfect balance of challenge and scenery. It’s a quintessential Park City fall hike — crisp air, panoramic views, and the scent of pine.
🌾 Jenni’s Trail
Distance: 3.3 miles (one way)
Difficulty: Moderate
Starting near the base of Park City Mountain Resort, Jenni’s Trail climbs gently through dense aspen groves that ignite with color in late September and October. The higher you go, the more spectacular the valley views become — a mosaic of gold, amber, and red stretching across the mountainside.
🌲 Lost Prospector Trail
Distance: 3.8 miles (loop)
Difficulty: Easy
A local favorite for its accessibility and incredible vistas, Lost Prospector Trail winds through oak, pine, and aspen forests on Park City’s sunny east side. The gentle grades make it perfect for a relaxed fall walk or a quick mountain-bike ride, with picture-perfect overlooks of Old Town and the ski runs beyond.
🪵 Silver Lake Trail
Distance: 4.5 miles (round trip)
Difficulty: Moderate
Located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, this trail climbs steadily through groves of glowing aspens and russet oaks before opening up to a serene alpine lake framed by rugged peaks. The Silver Lake Trail captures everything magical about Utah in autumn — fresh mountain air, shimmering reflections, and endless shades of gold.
✨ My Suggestion
For the most vibrant colors, plan your hikes between late September and mid-October. Mornings bring the best light for photos — and you’ll have the trails nearly to yourself.
